There are really not many fruit names beginning with Q even after looking at the fruits’ scientific and alternative names. In total, we only found 4 of such names. These are the fruits that begin with Q.
Quince has a scientific name of Cydonia oblonga. It belongs to the same Rosaceae family as apples and pears. The fruit is a pome and looks like a pear. In its premature state, it is green in color with grayish fine hairs. This fruit ripens in late autumn and when mature, it changes to yellow in color without most of the hairs. The fully ripened fruits have soft flesh and intense aroma. The fruit can be consumed raw. It is also used for cooking and making jams, jellies, pudding and marmalade. The fruits belong to the drupe category and have a diameter of 2 to 4 cm. The fruit is covered by a green peel which is thin and brittle. The fruit has a low flesh to seed ratio. It contains 1 to 2 very large white seeds and an orange pulp which is juicy and gelatinous. The fruit ripens in summer and the ripened fruits taste bitter sweet like wine. It is also known to have mild laxative properties. The fruits are sold fresh or in cans. They are also used for making soft drinks and alcoholic drinks.
